  • Great Content… Low Audio

Jered and his guests have great content but the audio is super low. On every device I listen to it; I have to crank the volume way up. I wish they would run it through a program like Levelator to bring their audio up and level out both speakers audio tracks. It creates listening fatigue when I got a really concentrate just to hear their content.

These guys do not disappoint. They start rambling on and get you distracted and then smack you in the face with value out of nowhere. It’s great.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#180 Your Plumbing Business Can Make Way More Money Than You Think
Q: Why is marketing budgeting often misdone, and how should a budget be set for growth?
Don't rely on a fixed percentage; instead determine revenue targets, calculate how many jobs are needed, estimate calls and booking rates, and then allocate marketing spend to achieve those numbers while watching for diminishing returns.
#180 Your Plumbing Business Can Make Way More Money Than You Think
Q: How should a plumber read and interpret their P&L to find where they're losing money?
Focus on gross profit versus net profit to see whether the issue is in COGS or overhead; then drill into labor, materials, and overhead lines to identify where inefficiencies or underpricing are occurring and adjust accordingly.
#181 Owning A Plumbing Business Was Hard Until I Understood This
Q: What impact did the commission structure have on material efficiency?
Introducing a commission structure incentivized choosing higher-margin materials (e.g., a $300 material task instead of $200), which directly boosted material efficiency and overall profitability without adding administrative complexity.
#181 Owning A Plumbing Business Was Hard Until I Understood This
Q: What is the role of a selling technician in increasing revenue?
Selling technicians are trained to have relevant, not just friendly, conversations that discover what the customer wants and propose smarter, higher-value solutions; they help increase close rates on larger, more profitable jobs.
#181 Owning A Plumbing Business Was Hard Until I Understood This
Q: How should a manager be incentivized to maximize gross margin?
The manager should be bonused on gross margin with a defined percentage target and a minimum dollar amount; any amount above the target increases their bonus, as they directly control labor, materials, and subcontractor efficiency.
