  • Good, but…

Oddly, the guests on this program are not always or even usually announced by name in the podcast. Apparently a listing of the guests and topics are found elsewhere. But for people using their phones and subscribing to the podcast through iTunes or other services and listening while driving or walking their dogs, this is of little help. Sometimes the host will start the episode by referring to the guest by their first name only! For me this is a major obstacle to enjoying the show.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bob Responds to Randall Wray on Sectoral Balances
Q: What happens if the inflation premium and the default premium on government debt keeps rising, according to the discussion of the debate context?
The host suggests that the standard response is to balance the budget by reducing deficits, which would then have implications for private sector flow and current account balances; Randall Wray's side argues the sectoral balance framework shows why deficits can persist and why a balanced budget could have unintended negative consequences for macroeconomic stability.
How Congress Should Reform the Fed
Q: What should Congress do regarding the Federal Reserve?
Congress should set clear objectives and oversight for the Fed, particularly regarding its financial management and accountability.
How Congress Should Reform the Fed
Q: Can you just explain what your testimony was about?
It focused on the financial health of the Federal Reserve, their operating losses, and the implications for taxpayers and the national economy.
Menger's Barter Theory of the Origin of Money Is Still Standing
Q: Was it because the translation from the Greeks to the Latin was incorrect and Polanyi was just relying on a faulty translation?
I think he was just reading a Latin translation and he was wishfully thinking.
Menger's Barter Theory of the Origin of Money Is Still Standing
Q: Can you just explain there what happened, and then why you think they're attacking a more modern form that's actually weaker?
Actually, as a fan of Austrian economics, I'm not a big fan of neoclassical economics.
