The History of Black Americans and the Black Church

Daniel Whyte III

The church and religion has played and continues to play a big role in the African-American community. Yet, many of us who grew up in the traditional black church do not have an understanding of how our faith evolved under the duress of slavery and discrimination to be and to represent what it does today. The purpose of this broadcast is to provide that background knowledge while also pointing out... more

  • Unimpressed & disappointed

The topic is not discussed in any way. Why give topics, if it means nothing? The host goes off onto a Bible verse, talks about it waaay to much, takes up an offering, then the choir sings a song ,app marking the end of the service. I find it disgusting that black people have adopted the white man’s religion as if it were theirs all along. Black churches are lazy to me. They really need to start teaching the younger generation the truth or close up shop.

  • Significant podcast at this critical juncture for race equality

Daniel Whyte III has a profound grasp of the subject matter and his passionate delivery is a testament to that. His positive, humbling energy is channeled through the sound waves. At this time when we are reflecting on race within the historical context and reevaluating the shaky foundations upon which the United States was established, this podcast is incredibly relevant and necessary. Thank you

  • Not Today

I much rather read from the canon of African American history and historians, first hand, such as Diop, Franklin, Fraizer and the like than go through this presentation. Thank you but no thank you.

  • Very thankful for your work.

Brother thank you for your efforts in making this podcast available.

History helps me understand the present better and I am so thankful for this, especially as my church seeks to grow in building a community from all cultures—where Christ is King.
