  • Like minded Aviators

A great podcast coving most all of the public safety side of helicopter aviation. Guys with civilian, law enforcement, and military backgrounds that are still active in the industry. Good conversations that should make you think about how you are operating.

How Glenn Daley's Experience Shapes Aviation Safety Part I | Ep 360
Q: What lessons from 9/11 do you wish more agencies would adopt in advance of a disaster?
The core lesson is to establish robust SOPs and keep pilots and agencies from being forced to improvise under extreme pressure; practice, plan, and coordinate so when chaos hits, you can rely on disciplined, tested procedures rather than ad-hoc decisions.
How Glenn Daley's Experience Shapes Aviation Safety Part I | Ep 360
Q: What were you doing personally when the first plane hit, and how did your unit respond in the immediate aftermath?
I was waking up to the news, and within minutes my unit began coordinating a response from the Flight Operations Center, adjusting plans as information came in and prioritizing evacuation, rescue, and safety while managing conflicting reports.
Episode 353 - The Foundation of Honor: A Police Week Special with Craig Floyd Part 2
Q: How did the design process impact the memorial's meaning?
Choosing to hire a dedicated architect and integrating feedback from review agencies created a memorial that balances symbolism (the lions and the cubs) with public accessibility and reflection, making it a lasting national tribute.
Episode 353 - The Foundation of Honor: A Police Week Special with Craig Floyd Part 2
Q: Why was there no federal funding for the memorial, and how did the funding model work?
The project was funded entirely through private donations; no federal government money was provided, which made the achievement more meaningful as it reflected the generosity of the American people and the law enforcement community.
Episode 353 - The Foundation of Honor: A Police Week Special with Craig Floyd Part 2
Q: What was the biggest hurdle to dedicating the memorial over those ten years?
The biggest hurdle was underestimating the amount of work required; we had naivete about the effort, and we needed to build a real organization with full-time staff, a formal office, and a sustained fundraising approach.
