I love this show. I wish I’d found it years ago. It makes me feel less alone because it shows me that I’m not the only one who thinks about the world this way. And though the topics are often gloomy, it gives me hope to listen. I’m also learning a lot. Thank you Nate.
Are you saying Beirut is a village?
I hope your friend makes it through the attacks safely.
I just listened to this episode and it truly touched me. It made me realise how disconnected from ourselves we have become in service of the capitalist machine; that sometimes we need to do nothing in order to see the beauty of all that surrounds us and giving love to our families and communities gives the soul all the reward it needs. Thank you so much for sharing this, I look forward to Part 2 and I offer a prayer of love and peace to Dr McGilchrist.
I listen to every podcast except the one with Sam Harris, the militant hard-core atheist i’m pretty sure you have a wide range of listeners, but I just cannot participate in that one. Please keep up the great work.
Love the topics covered on the show, things I think about a lot and are very important. However, the amount of sibilance in the audio makes I genuinely unlistenable. Please consider switching microphones or use different settings for compression to filter out those Hz.

The conversations tend to center on systems thinking across energy, ecology, economics, and geopolitics, with a strong emphasis on biophysical limits and how current institutions and behaviors intersect with planetary boundaries. Guests range from energy analysts and philosophers to scientists and policy thinkers, often challenging techno-optimism and presenting frameworks for navigating collapse, scarcity, and collective decision-making. A notable strength is the willingness to connect abstract theory with real-world implications, offering practical mindsets and action-oriented approaches for listeners who want to understand complex futures and contribute to meaningful change.
