Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Rindin' with Robi Gonzales - former OCDP and Q Drum Co. custom drum shop builder
Q: Did you understand at the time that you were part of what was going to become a legacy in the drum world?
Yes. I cared about drums and the company, and I could sense we were doing something big and authentic that could last a long time, even if the shop itself didn't survive as a business.
The Incredible Drum Journey of Frank Zummo (Sum 41, Electric Callboy, Street Drum Corps)
Q: What impact did joining Electric Callboy have on your career trajectory after Sum 41?
Joining Electric Callboy reignited his touring and recording opportunities, allowing him to blend metal, electronics, and high-energy performances while maintaining a connection to his Sum 41 legacy and the broader OC drum-scene network.
The Incredible Drum Journey of Frank Zummo (Sum 41, Electric Callboy, Street Drum Corps)
Q: What led you to write a memoir and how did the process unfold?
The memoir grew from years of running workshops with School of Rock and wanting to share the narrative in a way that helps others, with a partnered process involving an interview-based framework, transcription, copy editing, and a structured pitch to modern drummer publication channels.
The Incredible Drum Journey of Frank Zummo (Sum 41, Electric Callboy, Street Drum Corps)
Q: How did Street Drum Corps come about and evolve into a major live act?
It started as an accidental, improvisational project born from Stomp-inspired percussive energy; a junkyard jam led to a Six Flags contract, Warped Tour exposure, and collaborations with major punk and alternative acts, fueled by a DIY attitude and a strong sense of community.
From drumming in Taking Back Sunday to his new band ME, this is Mark O’Connell on his OCDP Drums
Q: What was it like recording Louder Now, and how did the process influence the band's sound?
The recording was done in LA with Eric Valentine in a traditional, old-school manner, which provided a wealth of knowledge about transitions, mic placement, and the energy of the room, shaping the album's sound.
