  • Went Political

Was a regular listener until Kev went political regarding the flag issue. Don’t agree, that’s fine but there is no reason to resort to name-calling. There are plenty of other photography podcasts that stick focusing on photography.

  • Fun and informative

I love this dynamic duo, the content and the pace of the show! Highly recommended to anyone, even if you haven’t tried a Fujifilm camera yet and don’t know what you’re missing. :)

  • Has it Jumped the Shark?

I’m a long time listener (even back to the daily pandemic episodes) but I’ve found myself listening a lot less. Neil is delightful, but Kevin’s negative attitude has grown tiresome. His hatred of Apple, dismissive nature towards LR alternatives like Capture One, and crazy rants about people using …. Dots in their instagram posts (it’s simply the fastest way to separate your caption from the ugliness of a batch of hashtags Kevin, no one thinks it’s a hack) have started to have me turn off episode... more

  • Kev, this is an interesting podcast don’t you think Kev.

It’s an enjoyable listen Kev, but the repetitive addressing of Kev by the other presenter by saying “Kev” screams of the other one being a fan boy star of… yep you guessed it, Kev! Right Kev next question.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#323: Jane Bown the Master and photographing cops!
Q: Owen Hilton asks if IBIS needs to be off when the camera is mounted on a tripod and what the required shutter speed is when using a flash.
For tripod work, IBIS is generally turned off to avoid potential micro-movements, and the standard flash sync speed (1/180 or 1/125 depending on the system) is recommended; if shooting with high-speed sync or faster shutter speeds, expect synchronization issues.
#322: Dilemma: Moving away from Fujifilm?!? and sneaking cameras into festivals
Q: What are practical fixes for camera triggers and compatibility issues discussed by listeners?
Ensure triggers are set to all users, adjust distance ranges to reliable levels (1-30 meters), check electronic shutter settings on newer bodies, and consider swapping to a compatible trigger like Godox X-Pro-F when encountering lockups.
#322: Dilemma: Moving away from Fujifilm?!? and sneaking cameras into festivals
Q: What is a reasonable number of images to deliver to a wedding client, and how should he balance quality versus quantity?
Avoid treating it as a numbers game; aim for a curated set that emphasizes the best shots, with a common range around 350-500 images for larger weddings, ensuring enough strong images without fillers.
#322: Dilemma: Moving away from Fujifilm?!? and sneaking cameras into festivals
Q: How should Rob set up for occasional paid events in terms of insurance, website, and contract?
Rob should look for simple, low-friction options to cover occasional paid events, such as straightforward professional liability insurance, a basic landing page or simple site, and clear, transitory contracts per client to avoid long-term commitments while preserving professionalism.
#321: Buying third-party stuff, good idea? Swap to DxO?
Q: Any recommendations on lenses and macro setups for beginners considering a non‑proprietary macro option?
The hosts discuss focus distance implications for macro and recommend understanding minimum focus distance, using focus peaking for manual focus, and checking whether a lens is autofocus or manual to guide setup decisions.
