  • Informative

Good production value, strong reporting. While every media outlet has a bias (this one clearly leans left of center for U.S. audiences) the reporting is fact-based. Good journalism.

  • Sound quality is consistently terrible/variable

I’m a longtime listener but I get incredibly frustrated when I have to constantly adjust my volume. The problem has a considerable impact on the quality of the podcast quality. Great stories that are poorly engineered.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Economist Kenneth Rogoff on the Threat to the Federal Reserve
Q: So James, Ken Rogoff is a name most people are not familiar with. Tell us about him and explain why you chose to interview him.
Rogoff is a renowned Harvard economist and former IMF chief economist who studies central bank independence; the hosts chose him to provide a long-term, expert perspective on why independent monetary policy matters and how political pressures can undermine it.
Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari on the Importance of Fed Independence
Q: And so why do you think so many Fed officials you contacted were reluctant to talk right now? And also, for that matter, why did Kashkari sit down with you?
Kashkari's openness is attributed to the belief that the Fed must communicate clearly with the public to explain decisions, especially during unprecedented times when inflation and global shocks require careful, long-horizon analysis.
“Silence Is Not an Option”
Q: What impact did the Pegasus surveillance have on your reporting and on your sources?
Pegasus targeted our reporters, prompting us to verify logs with Citizen Lab and adjust safety measures, which reinforced the importance of documenting and publicly acknowledging risks to protect our sources.
“Silence Is Not an Option”
Q: How do you keep your team together and maintain morale when reporting from outside the country?
We leaned into practical adaptations learned during COVID-19, built a strong mission alignment, and emphasized clear editorial standards to sustain momentum and protect our sources.
“Silence Is Not an Option”
Q: So Carlos, it goes without saying that journalism can be a risky career. But I imagine that you didn't expect to be exiled from your country.
Exile is a complex, ongoing reality for us; we chose to continue reporting because the public deserves verified information, and we rely on disciplined editorial processes to stay accurate and trustworthy despite personal risks.
