Welcome to Stories from the First Watch. This is both a solo roleplaying game and an experiment in audio storytelling. The story, and the characters’ actions, will unfold upon the roll of the dice. Once the game starts, nothing is predetermined. The dice are in control.

The party re-enter civilisation - but something is very, very wrong...

I'm really enjoying the story and characters, but the blatant "borrowing" of so many elements from "Tale of the Manticore" is just really off-putting. You call it an experiment in storytelling. Jon used that phrase first. Your "entering combat" and "party status, "spells available" all from Jon. You're a great storyteller and the podcast is really well-done. I just wish you'd make it your own. Even so, I'd still recommend the pod to others.
I was willing to believe it “was as the dice willed it” when the first character rolled up a very decent rogue. But the rolls are clearly fudged … in particular, after rolling up the rogue, a fighter, and a cleric, the final character was a perfect archetypical magic user (with an INT of 18, no less).
“What a coincidence!!!” said no one, ever…
So atmospheric!
SftFW is a wonderful old school role playing game experience, told by a master of understated suspense. The tone of the world is gritty and grim, and death is never far away, but there's space for the characters to come alive, to relate to one another deeply, and feel real and important. This is the perfect way to experience the joys of solo gaming and actual play, a wonderfully written, performed and produced gem.
A great member of the ever-
growing genre of solo roleplay scene, Stories From the First Watch does well to balance excellent storytelling with gameplay with both great voice actors and musical accompaniments as well as a great look behind the GM screen.
Stories from the First Watch is one of my favorite solo RPG podcast. It beautifully captures the danger and risk that made old school Dungeons and Dragons so fun. It has traps at any dungeon master would consider stealing, intense combat that leaves you on the edge of your seat, and truly tangled intrigue to keep you interested.

This show blends solo roleplaying with audio storytelling, built around dice-driven fantasy adventures. Each episode combines in-game narration, character development, and occasional guest cameos, creating an immersive, live-play feel. Listeners can expect intricate world-building, strategic combat, moral choices, and behind-the-scenes notes that reveal how stories are crafted. A standout feature is network cross-promotion among related solo RPG creators, which enriches the ecosystem and offers a wider array of related shows for fans to explore.
