  • This is a great film score podcast with interviews with some high profile composers in the industry. Even the less known composers give great insight into their creative process and I try to catch every episode whether I've heard of the composer or not.

  • Great interviews

As a composer some might think I like sitting around and listening to other composers talk about their process... But it's actually the opposite and I rarely find myself listening to composer interviews. So it's awesome that The Film Scorer does a great job of making their interviews be less about the technical aspects of what goes into creating film scores and more so what goes into the headspace of someone working on a film score. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cristobal Tapia de Veer
Q: Cristo, I know we only planned for half an hour, so I appreciate you going quite a bit longer. Before we wrap, you know, do you want to spill all and tell me everything that happened with White Lotus?
The guest humorously pivots to imply a busy slate since White Lotus, noting many projects have released after that show and highlighting the experience of moving between productions like a village and a country, rather than dwelling on one single controversy.
Jeremiah Fraites (The Lumineers, The Long Walk, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere)
Q: What is the difference between writing an original song for a film and writing an original score for a film?
Fraites explains that while both require a connection to the film's world, scoring a film is more in-depth and involves a more significant learning curve than writing an original song.
Jeremiah Fraites (The Lumineers, The Long Walk, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere)
Q: What influence does that landscape have in the score?
Fraites shares that he focused on creating a balance of light and optimism amidst the bleakness of the narrative rather than merely depicting the grim landscape itself.
Jeremiah Fraites (The Lumineers, The Long Walk, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere)
Q: So how does that feel?
Fraites expresses that it's surreal to transition from having no score credits to releasing two films back-to-back, sharing excitement about the positive reactions to 'The Long Walk'.
Jeff Danna Talks The Hunting Wives, Silent Hill
Q: How do you decide on the instrumentation and sound when scoring a show?
Danna described his unique approach to finding interesting and diverse instruments, including Croatian guitars, to create a score that has a distinct identity and fits the setting.
