  • Quick, lots of content

Not gimmicky, long episodes, lots of good stuff. Doesn’t just talk about pop culture stuff either, but legit BJJ strategy and how to improve your game.

  • Instructive and Enjoyable

I only know Matt by reputation; a lot of the guys at my gym cross-train with him, and he has a strong standing in the BJJ scene in the Lower Mainland of BC. I started listening to hear from a local guy, but I recommend this show regardless of geography. I love that he both covers targeted swaths of the game as well as various ancillary topics. It’s a healthy mix, and his mind for all of it is great. Well thought through, but also personable.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Everyday Jiu Jitsu Podcast Ep 104: False Reaps Feat. Max Hanson
Q: How do you like to warm up for competition?
My warm-up mixes physical activity like sprinting or drilling leg locks, but I focus more on staying relaxed and present before the match.
The Everyday Jiu Jitsu Podcast Ep 104: False Reaps Feat. Max Hanson
Q: What type of guard passer gives you more trouble?
Someone who has a really good base from split squat and can flatten me out or force me to turtle would give me trouble, especially when I get tired.
The Everyday Jiu Jitsu Podcast Ep 104: False Reaps Feat. Max Hanson
Q: Will you ever compete in the gi again? Or are you just like, no, I'm done?
Maybe. I recently competed in gi tournaments for some cash, even after not training in the gi for a while. I think the no reaping in the gi is kind of silly because it limits the game.
The Everyday Jiu Jitsu Podcast Ep 104: False Reaps Feat. Max Hanson
Q: How have you transitioned from someone who pulls guard and enters legs to somebody who stands and wrestles?
Honestly, I like it a lot more because I feel like you're dominating a person more if you're getting on top of them and passing their guard, compared to just tricking them into a leg lock position.
The Everyday Jiu Jitsu Podcast Ep 101: Doctors of Physio for BJJ Feat. Dr. Diana Wang
Q: What does your physiotherapy practice Open Mat Physio focus on?
It focuses solely on treating Jiu Jitsu athletes and educating them on returning from injuries.
