  • Rich Content:Great Podcast!

I’m a professional musician with little experience as an endurance athlete and I enjoy listening to this podcast. While the main focus of this podcast is endurance sports, I find that as Tony engages professionals from a variety of disciplines, the conversations are fruitful, often rich with great stories and insights beyond the endurance arena. Great to listen to on my morning runs. I especially enjoyed the podcast with Kathrine Switzer. As a woman, I found this one to be especially inspiring!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP. 70: Swimming Outside The Lanes w/Becca Mann
Q: What was the Maui-Nui Triangle challenge like, and why did you pursue it?
She describes the plan to swim a 40-mile triangle in Hawaii, recognizing it would require endurance and speed, dealing with seasickness among feeders, and choosing to trust intuition and the sense of completeness a full-circle moment would bring.
EP. 70: Swimming Outside The Lanes w/Becca Mann
Q: What drew you to open water over pool swimming?
Becca explains that while she loved pool work for its precision, open-water racing attracted her grittiness, unpredictability, and the mental challenge of navigating currents, waves, and changing conditions.
EP. 69: Trick or Treatment in Health w/Edzard Ernst, M.D., PhD
Q: What have clinical trials shown about acupuncture and cupping?
Rigorous trials often fail to show that acupuncture or cupping have specific therapeutic effects beyond placebo; bias and study design can influence outcomes, making robust, well-controlled trials essential.
EP. 69: Trick or Treatment in Health w/Edzard Ernst, M.D., PhD
Q: How do placebo and ethical considerations interact with alternative therapies?
Placebo effects arise from conditioning and patient expectations; ethical practice requires informed consent and transparency about whether a treatment has active ingredients, otherwise deception undermines trust and patient safety.
EP. 69: Trick or Treatment in Health w/Edzard Ernst, M.D., PhD
Q: What is naturopathy, and where does it diverge from mainstream medicine?
Naturopathy emphasizes natural means and often rejects modern medicine; it varies by country, but in practice it can rely on unproven remedies and downplay evidence from conventional science, which is why Ernst treats it as something that needs rigorous testing.
