  • Content solid, but…

Kate offers her expertise on the show that most of us exploring divorce haven’t considered. This is helpful. She also brings in guests to expound upon niche topics. I find her content helpful, but her language and use of expletives and political persuasions lower her credibility as it reflects poorly on her level of professionalism. It’s unnecessary. She is educated and more capable of using longer than four letter words. Keep it professional please.

  • Wow…I feel seen!

Episode 333 was powerful. As someone who has lived through a coercively controlling relationship, I know how confusing the gaslighting and silent treatment feel when you are inside it. Kate names the patterns for what they are and reminds us we are not alone. If there is a playbook for them, there is a playbook for you, too.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 365: Children as Co-Victims of Coercive Control with Dr. Emma Katz
Q: Why is family court and systemic therapy often risky in these cases, and what should victims know when these processes occur?
Katz and Kate critique systemic family therapy in coercive-control contexts, noting that it can pressure victims to appear friendly toward the abuser and fail to address ongoing harm to the child and mother, suggesting strategies to anticipate the dynamics and protect the child's safety and the mother's autonomy.
Episode 365: Children as Co-Victims of Coercive Control with Dr. Emma Katz
Q: What practical steps can protective mothers take to support their children pre- and post-separation?
They can foster trusted adult connections for the child, encourage non-therapeutic supportive environments, use ongoing conversations about abuse, and strategically introduce activities or people who help the child feel safe and heard, all while protecting the child's safety and maintaining boundaries with the abusive parent.
Episode 365: Children as Co-Victims of Coercive Control with Dr. Emma Katz
Q: They are actively navigating it. You call them co-victims. How do children, as co-victims, differ from witnesses experiencing coercive control?
Emma explains that children are harmed by the same behaviors as the mothers, not merely witnessing events; they are co-victims and co-survivors who absorb the abuse, experience isolation, and face loyalty conflicts, which can shape their behavior and identity long-term.
Episode 356: How to Assess Real Change When a Partner Promises Everything
Q: What if he says he'll do the work and asks for like three to six months to prove it?
Three to six months is not enough time to prove that abusive patterns have changed, but it is enough time to see whether someone is genuinely engaged in the process.
Episode 351: Protecting Your Financial Future During Divorce with Jamie Lima, CDFA®
Q: Why should someone hire a CDFA during a divorce?
A CDFA can provide specialized knowledge and help navigate the complexities of financial planning specific to divorce, including asset division, support calculations, and tax implications.
