  • Great- but no more “Umms” please !

I love this podcast, but please no more guests that say “um” every other word. I believe it’s Alex Durante? It’s driving me nuts- this is a podcast, all we do is listen, and it’s so obvious that this person is nervous and not a great speaker.

  • An honest discussion on taxes

Really enjoy the honest discussions and more importantly the history and ramifications of certain tax policies as well as the never ending proposals that seem to be out there. Regardless if it is a windfall profits tax or a new Social Security tax we all must be educated and structure our finances to legally pay the least amount of taxes and keep more in our pockets.

  • The Intramural Discussion

Great for the egghead, but I was really looking forward to a SIMPLE explanation of Biden's tax plan when I was run over by tax speak that was out of my paygrade. NOT FOR THE COMMON MAN.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

You Might Owe Taxes in a State You Don’t Live In
Q: What would be the most impactful reform to simplify this landscape?
Adopt a 30-day filing and withholding threshold with non-misleading uniform rules, remove mutuality requirements, and implement broader reciprocity agreements to reduce cross-border complexity and compliance costs.
You Might Owe Taxes in a State You Don’t Live In
Q: What do states currently do to keep people from being taxed twice on the same income?
The hosts and Katherine explain credits for taxes paid to other states which offset tax liabilities in the home state, but the system remains burdensome because it still requires filing in multiple states and often lacks perfect symmetry.
Should We Tax Artificial Intelligence?
Q: What do people need to know about this and where the debate stands on taxing AI?
There are multiple plausible frameworks, with some proposals aiming to tax AI profits or industry activity, but the discussion emphasizes avoiding rapid, targeted taxes that could slow adoption; instead, assess labor market impacts and use policy tools like unemployment insurance and retraining incentives.
2025 Tax Review | What OBBBA Changed, the Impact of Tariffs, and What’s Next
Q: How much will the OBVA cost us, and what will it add to the deficit?
The legislative OBVA represents a multi-trillion dollar tax cut, impacting the deficit by around $3 trillion over the next 10 years.
2025 Tax Review | What OBBBA Changed, the Impact of Tariffs, and What’s Next
Q: Why does the debt matter?
The debt affects fiscal capacity and limits government investment in priorities because a growing portion of the budget is used to pay interest on the debt.
