Each Monday join Laura Hudson and Spencer Ackerman as they dissect the social, political and military themes of Game of Thrones and apply them to the real world. When you drop out of the Citadel, you talk or you die; there is no middle ground.

The analysis is smart and engaging, though it borders on pretentious on a few occasions. I like critical analysis, but this show goes so far on the negativity that you may end up wondering why you’re listening to a podcast hosted by people who don’t seem to like the show much.
Only able to track this down after this season had wrapped up. Followed previously on the Guardian podcast. Great mix of show insights, social commentary and reflections on parallels with the "real world". A great, great podcast.
Stuck with this negative and frustrating show for 2 seasons and although they provided some interesting points, the contempt with which they hold the show and, by proxy, their listeners is clear.
Whilst I don't need to listen to a podcast that unilaterally sings the praises of GoT, the continual negative attitudes and haughty approach make for a dull listen.
He is a blowhard who tries to cram real life narratives alongside those from the show. This shtick quickly becomes tiresome and becomes ... more
Please don't do the podcast next year. You hate the show, wish it was a different show and cannot clearly describe the show you wanted to see. Listening to this is like reading a translation of a book where the translator hates the original material.
Great combo of recap & topical social/political analysis.
I have been devouring all sorts of GoT podcasts for years and these two take the cake. It's an amazing deep dive into themes and plot lines in ways I never thought about. Better then the show itself on occasion!
This is swiftly becoming my favorite GoT podcast - both Laura and Spencer are amazing writers and they talk about Thrones in a way very few people do. 100% recommended!
This isn’t a typical recap podcast. Instead, the hosts present a fascinating analysis of the themes presented in each episode, and how those themes relate to real world issues.
By taking the show--its characters and especially its themes--seriously, Citadel Dropouts finds moral and ethical issues that other reviewers gloss over or ignore completely. Laura and Spencer are knowledgeable and clever enough to take up those issues in a really interesting and entertaining way.
Finally! A GoT podcast that gets it. This is pop-culture critique at it’s best. Fun, engaging and interesting.
A slightly outre take on the Game of Thrones from a military/political perspective that tries to make sense of a mostly senseless show. Great discussion of motivation and strategy leavened by an appreciation of the poor exposition from D&D. Worth a listen.
Like the previous reviewer I listened to Laura and Spencer last season, and found their analysis fascinating and thought provoking--I'd bring up their points discussing the show and everyone thought I was so clever :) (yes I told them I got the ideas from the podcast). Very pleased to have found them again at their new location--this podcast both helps me understand better what I just saw (clearing up plot points, reminding me of things I may have forgotten, pointing out things I missed) and br... more
I've just rediscovered this fantastic GOT podcast after it changed it's name and didn't automatically appear in my itunes. The depth of thought and discussion they bring to the episodes is very different to what is offered by recap podcasts. Highly recommended.
I really hope this show goes beyond the season finale and covers more of these IR, security, feminism, governance topics in the show/books; not just episode by episode.
My favorite GoT pod by far. Thank you! Also, Laura's written recaps are 🔥🔥🔥
