  • Great Show

Keep up the great work. I’ve been listening for almost a couple years but have a backlog of saved episodes as well that I’m going through. So many good guests and topics that have helped bring some understanding and desire to be better as a husband and father. The episode with your wife and several of the episodes with your son Ethan have been favorites. They are leading me to be more intentional across the board to strive to have relationships with my sons and wife that you seem to have.

Why Boundaries Are the Only Way Kids Ever Have True Freedom featuring Jon Fogel
Q: What is your view on the best way to handle a child who pushes boundaries during dinner?
Use a calm, boundary-based approach: acknowledge the boundary, apply a proportional logical consequence only if necessary, and keep the child with you while you address the behavior; avoid reacting in the heat of the moment and offer a future option for the child to revisit the behavior later.
Why Your Kid Blames Everyone Else and How to Teach Real Ownership
Q: How can I address a child's fear of abandonment or feelings of being unwanted, especially in an adoptive context?
Reassure through consistent actions, explicitly affirm that they are chosen every day, and demonstrate ongoing commitment to the relationship while keeping conversations concrete and focused on mutual trust.
Why Your Kid Blames Everyone Else and How to Teach Real Ownership
Q: What steps can I take to help a 12-year-old recognize ownership when they blame others?
Start with understanding and acknowledge the internal pressures they face, then model ownership and invite discussion using non-accusatory prompts like 'tell me about that' to uncover the underlying cause and encourage accountability.
How to Show Up for Your Kid When the Environment Around Him Is Toxic
Q: How can a parent balance drive and enjoyment in youth sports without fueling burnout?
Cultivate curiosity, avoid making the season about winning, encourage fun and personal growth, and model positive behavior to counteract toxicity in the environment.
How to Show Up for Your Kid When the Environment Around Him Is Toxic
Q: What do you do now to help a kid who wants to quit and is having a tough time with sports?
Focus on down-to-earth support, validate feelings, finish the season if a commitment was made, then re-evaluate with the child and keep the family backing him up regardless of the decision.
