Shockingly boring and unintelligent. As a big fan of criterion i was looking forward to listening to this and hearing some interesting takes on great films. But the hosts sound extremely bored and present very uninspired, uninteresting, and predictable takes on movies that deserve much more. Listened to the last temptation of Christ episode, it is essentially a male bible study unfairly criticizing a truly brilliant work of art. Not in an interesting way either. I was initially interested in hea... more
My first listen is “In the Mood for Love” and I’m really disappointed with their take. Questioning if the movie is stylistic or atmospheric JUST because? Questioning if Wong Kar Wai just chose scenes randomly with no intention? Come on! Do some research on the director! Watch any supplement on the DVD for the movie! Read something about the film before trying to rip it up! It was infuriating to listen to one of them question every decision made by WKW without him knowing the director’s meticulou... more
The only show that discusses my favourite films. Just that the guy who is always negative is quite shallow in his dismissal disguised as analysis.
Not as slickly produced as some podcasts, but superb quality discussions about fantastic movies is all that really matters to me.
Can’t wait for each new episode!
I collect Criterion films, so am always on the hunt for Criterion-related podcasts. Criterion Chat is one of the better Criterion podcasts available. The discussion/analysis is intelligent and researched, and the hosts sound professional (i.e., no vocal fry or overuse of the word "like"). Recommend the Criterion Chat whether or not you are a collector.
