  • Great for getting the creative juices flowing

Great group to bounce off ideas, laugh, and learn. These writers are sharp, quick-witted, and entertaining.

If you want a writing partner or just get motivated to write new material this is the group you should be after. Easily one of my favourite listens of the week in terms of the podcast, but the higher tier groups gives you access to zoom meetings etc which is great.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Pretending Not to Care (with Luke Heggie & Chris Ryan)
Q: What are their biggest challenges as prolific writers when generating new material?
They discuss deadlines, the pressure to maintain a high word count, avoiding filler, and the ongoing need to test and refine material to keep it fresh, while still staying true to their voice and point of view.
Bonus Episode - Directing a Show Part 2 (with Steph Tisdell)
Q: What's the approach to avoiding over-apology during heavier moments?
Replace constant apologies with confident, in-the-moment reactions; if an apology is used, it should be a deliberate device that signals a transition rather than a recurring safety-net.
Bonus Episode - Directing a Show Part 2 (with Steph Tisdell)
Q: How do you handle self-deprecating material without alienating the audience?
Use a knowing wink, couple self-deprecation with affection for the audience, and balance heavier moments with lighter tags and clear subtext so the message remains relatable.
Bonus Episode - Directing a Show Part 2 (with Steph Tisdell)
Q: What is the strategic goal for opening Act One with real, authentic material?
To immediately ground the audience in the comedian's truth, build trust, and set up the narrative arc so later jokes can land with greater emotional weight and resonance.
Hypnosis + Improv (with Colin Mochrie & Asad Mecci)
Q: How does self-hypnosis work for performers?
Asad explains that self-hypnosis can help performers relax and tap into their creativity without hesitation, enhancing their improvisational skills.
