This Podcast went missing for me, and finally just now finding again, Was listening while going to art school in the 2010s! oh i have missed so much!
Just listened to your talk with Dan Pasternak, all about Jonathan Winters. More than Loved it!! A life long favorite comedian and human being. Can’t wait to receive the Unearthed album set! During your conversations it was mentioned that you’ll be cutting back on your podcasts. My heart sank. You did say that you have projects with The Firesign Theater and Monty Python though, which gave my heart a bounce up. The men of The Firesign Theater were and are “Dear friends” of mine. I met them through... more
Good guests, knowledgeable host, funny stuff
Just listened to the Derek & Clive episode. Great to get an American perspective on UK comedy. Wonder if you’ll ever do a podcast on Dave Allen - great Irish comedian from 70s/80s.
I expect topics to vaguely jive with descriptions
I love the idea behind this show, when the guest is good the show is great, other times it feels a little drawn out but over all I dig this show.
I’d recommend searching for episodes with guests you already like and then venturing out to other episodes after getting aquatinted. The host is fine, could use some practice about interviewing but he’s not bad.
I’ve listened to a few episodes so far and it’s been fun. My only complaint is that some of the guests seem more interested in plugging personal projects than the album topic at hand, which can be frustrating as a listener.
Of course not every episode of this podcast is equally interesting, but I’ve learned to give them a chance, since there is a lot of discoverability in the show.
When people come on this show they generally have something close to their heart to talk about.
The host Jason Klamm can come of vapid and condescending, with his standard affirmative responses.
“Hmm hmm” and “sure” being favorites.
He is certainly not though, when you hear his longer responses.
Please--you are holding great comedy that people should hear, but you just keep talking, unscripted and repetitive and "I mean, like....". PLEASE--let the comedy play! I can't wait 15 minutes for you guys to shut up before I hear ANY of the comedian's work!
Subjects are very interesting and podcast is funny and informative. However, at least one interviewer (Jason) has an incredibly distracting interview demeanor. Lots of unnecessary exclamations and interjections and "oh that's amazing" (when it's not amazing at all) really take away from the subject. Needs an editor or a more self-aware interviewer.
and even after writing the last comment, i tried to go back and listen again... sheesh... what a phony host. knows nothing!
Some of my favourite comedy performers sharing their love of old recordings, so many things about this podcast hit me in just the right ways.
I was happy to find this podcast as its a great topic. The early episodes aren't that great, but after the first dozen or so it gets better and better and recent episodes have been great. Mr. Klamm is a fun, engaging host and the recent episodes on nearly forgotten lps like The First Family and the Peter Ustinov record have been great fun. One of my favorite podcast series.
Being a big fan of the history of comedy, I really wanted to love this podcast…after several episodes, it's merely a like - mostly because I get to hear clips from some of the great comedy albums. Sadly the hosts have a fairly shallow knowledge of their subjects, and it's clear they barely did any research on the comedians, be it Weird Al or Bob Newhart (to name the first 2 I listened to). Yeah, it's great to listen to classic comedy albums and talk about them, but it would be so much better to ... more
As a singer/songwriter and music teacher, sometimes I need to get away from music.
Comedy On Vinyl features smart people talking about the art form as delivered through the medium of the finest comedy albums of our time and times gone by.
Comedy from all eras discussed and dissected in fascinating fashion.
Highly recommended.
