This podcast doesn’t try to be completist and cover every little movie and Hollywood product. They pick a few movies every few weeks and talk about them. They often inject politics into their discussions, but thats fine, it tells you where they are coming from as young Scottish people.

The best thing is the banter between the three. They joke and sometimes mock the movies and each other.

Talking Points

[BONUS] John Maclean on his Scottish samurai western, Tornado
Q: Is Kôki the lead you envisioned for Tornado, and how did casting shape the film?
Kôki turned out to be an incredible fit; the Zoom discovery felt like fate, with her look, movement, and British-with-Japanese ambiance perfectly matching the character. The casting process was tough and long, but finding her transformed the project and clarified how the lead would carry the story.
James McAvoy interview, plus reviews of Fuze and Orwell: 2+2=5
Q: How did the Scottish accent factor into casting and the reception of the film both domestically and internationally?
McAvoy notes the industry pressure to mute accents and discusses how authenticity in accent can both hinder and enhance marketability, stressing the need for better representation rather than forcing a uniform sound.
James McAvoy interview, plus reviews of Fuze and Orwell: 2+2=5
Q: What drew James McAvoy to California Schemin and how did his acting background influence his directing approach?
McAvoy speaks about entertaining audiences with authentic characters from underrepresented backgrounds and how his own experiences informed his directing approach, including working with actors to access honest performances.
Felipe Bustos Sierra on Everybody To Kenmure Street
Q: Why is the film described as both local and universal?
Because while Kenmure Street is a very local event, the themes of resistance, community resilience, and the systemic forces that shape migrants' lives resonate globally, and the film connects Glasgow's history with wider patterns of dissent and civil disobedience across the Western world.
Felipe Bustos Sierra on Everybody To Kenmure Street
Q: How did you approach using anonymous participants and actors to tell the story?
We built a circle of trust with participants, used actors to stand in for certain roles to protect anonymity, and layered authentic footage from smartphones with carefully crafted narration and staging to preserve truth while safeguarding individuals.
