  • An odd mix

I thought the presenters seemed very knowledgeable until I listened to a show on my own specialist subject area, Palestine and Israel, in which they were coming out with over-generalisations and outright errors all over the place. I’m not sure if that’s just because they’re weak on the Middle East or I didn’t have the knowledge to spot mistakes on other topics. Some good interviewees, so perhaps just stick to the episodes with outside quality.

China's Evolution from "Rules Taker" to "Rules Maker" in Development Finance
Q: Kevin, let's start with you. We talked about China being a rules taker, which is presumably back in the 1980s and 1990s when China was very poor and didn't have the influence that it has today. Then there was a rule shaker and now a rules maker. Maybe you can walk us through that trajectory that you outlined in the book.
China has transitioned from a rule taker in the 1980s when it was very poor and had little influence to a rule shaker responding to its frustrations with the established systems, leading to its emergence as a rule maker as it created its own institutions and approached international finance differently.
