  • Excellent

This podcast has given me, for the first time, a good insight into India’s pre and proto history, especially the Aryan debate. There is a lot of ‘noise’ on this subject in the world of podcasts, but here there only open - minded and scholarly discussions! Great work!!

  • Pathetic

Hate this podcast because the host is too uncertain of his own convictions. He is like a weathervane.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

State of History Scholarship In India
Q: What concrete steps can strengthen history scholarship in India?
Establish enduring institutions like fellowships (e.g., Jadunath Sarkar Fellowship), an organized research division, archives, and outreach to youth through YUWA; ensure funding is stable and manuscripts are actually published with help from major publishers.
State of History Scholarship In India
Q: What is the current state of history writing in India, especially from the non-left perspective?
There is a perceived stagnation and institutional capture that suppresses alternative viewpoints; the guest argues for a more diversified ecosystem with independent fellowships, proper archival work, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to produce evidence-based histories.
Pashupati Seal of IVC: Proto Shiva or Proto Elamite?
Q: What is the core controversy around the Pashupati Seal and Proto-Elamite iconography?
The guests argue that the Pashupati Seal shows indigenous Shaivite-like symbolism connected to local Harappan tradition, while some scholars posit Proto-Elamite influence; the discussion emphasizes regional variation, cross-cultural contact, and the danger of cherry-picking evidence to claim a single origin.
Protest Mania In Canada
Q: What motivated you to start covering these protests and coin the term protest mania?
The motivation came from curiosity as protests passed by the speaker's office and the media largely ignored the beat, revealing patterns and recurring faces that signaled a deeper, organized structure rather than random events.
Road Ahead for The Indian Economy
Q: What reforms could stabilize the rupee and lower the cost of capital for Indian investments?
Proposals include five‑year tax and regulatory reforms to attract FDI, stabilise the rupee, reduce the India risk premium, stop speculative FPI flows, and incentivise domestic industrial expansion with clearer rules and faster approvals.
