  • Annoying music

Why not switch that thing off while the guest is talking? Tried to listen to podcast with Nick and couldn’t, because of the music on the background

  • I think I've listened through the whole thing. I have thoroughly enjoyed the discussions as a way to keep up to date with what's going on in the community. If I'd wish anything, it is, don't be afraid to go a little deeper into technical and biological questions too.But overall, the conversations are just great.

Jenny Yang - computable microbiomes
Q: What would a truly meaningful win look like for you over the next few years?
A meaningful win would be translating both the wet-lab and in silico systems into real-world human outcomes, validating with clinical cohorts, and showing generalizable patterns in microbiome–molecule interactions that inform health strategies.
Jenny Yang - computable microbiomes
Q: What decisions do you feel you still need to hold closely, and which ones are you happy to let others own?
She emphasizes hiring strong experts (e.g., VP of R&D) and trusting them to execute, highlighting the importance of not micromanaging and letting specialists drive progress toward milestones.
Jenny Yang - computable microbiomes
Q: Can you tell us more about the stage you're at right now with Outpost Bio and what your role actually looks like week to week at this stage?
Jenny describes a one-year-old company with a pre-seed raise, focusing on validating wet-lab methods, building initial models, benchmarking against state-of-the-art approaches, and coordinating with customers and partners while expanding in-house capabilities.
Jenny Yang - computable microbiomes
Q: What problem keeps you most intellectually stimulated right now?
She is motivated by advancing personalized health, noting the gap between genomics progress and clinical trial improvements, and the need to understand how microbes influence drug and diet responses beyond human genomics alone.
Jenny Yang - computable microbiomes
Q: Excited to have you. So for listeners just meeting you, what are you spending your time on right now, and what are you trying to build?
Jenny explains that Outpost Bio aims to make human microbiology computable by combining wet-lab experiments with machine learning to model how microbial communities respond to various compounds, enabling broader analyses and actionable insights in health and nutrition.
