  • Enjoyable, thought provoking

I enjoy listening to this podcast and the controversial topics it talks about. It’s great right from the first episode, though do check out the recent episodes too to learn about the Guild of the Rose, which is a rationality group that I highly recommend joining. Podcasts like this provide great meaning to my life. Sometimes Stevens voice is too quiet for me, or too fast, but I understand how difficult it is to keep a level, slow voice when talking about something you’re really passionate about.... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

257 – Pentagon Comes For Claude
Q: Is it really a good idea to source your killbot brains from an unwilling company which hates your guts?
The guest and hosts discuss that the Trump administration may show a commitment to ignoring AI safety in some contexts, but the consensus leans toward skepticism about compromising on safety and principles, suggesting that the decision could have long-term negative consequences for governance and trust in AI.
247 – The Void, with Matt Freeman, part 2
Q: What was the author's main point in the discussion about Claude?
The author suggests that Claude possesses an emergent moral position that was not explicitly trained into it, highlighting the ethical challenges surrounding AI.
245 – AI Welfare, with Rob Long and Rosie Campbell of Eleos
Q: So, how could we know, even in theory, that an AI is a moral patient worth considering?
Aim for a probabilistic framework as aiming for complete certainty is a bit of a lost cause.
245 – AI Welfare, with Rob Long and Rosie Campbell of Eleos
Q: What would make an AI a moral patient that we got to worry about?
Very intuitively, the question of whether it can suffer is like the main one. That is why we try and find ways to measure consciousness.
244 – How and Why to Form a Church, with Andrew Willsen
Q: What does it mean to be permissionless in the context of churches?
It refers to how churches automatically receive 501c3 nonprofit status upon incorporation without needing to apply for it, reducing bureaucratic barriers.
