  • Same

Same old story nowadays. It’s ok for certain people to have there own clubs, groups etc but not ok for other people. I’m not part of any club but anyone should have the right to be exclusive to whatever they want just like others

  • Great find, even better podcast

Awesome episode with Grant. Didn’t really get into podcasts up until six months ago. Grant sounds like he genuinely loves the game and has great history to go with it. I’ll be supporting Eagles and Arrows for sure. Thanks again for the episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Where Golf Still Feels Like Golf: North Berwick to Royal Melbourne
Q: Josh, how did you end up spending significant time in Melbourne after North Berwick and Edinburgh?
A sabbatical opportunity and a visiting professorship aligned with his research and teaching, plus long-standing golf ties and friendships that made Melbourne a natural extension for both professional and personal reasons.
Hooper Golf Course: Community, Stewardship, and the Heart of 9-Hole Golf
Q: How do you maintain the balance between preserving Hooper's history and keeping it modern and playable?
Josh explains a disciplined approach: stay true to the nine-hole identity, invest prudently in things like bunker renovations and selective tree management, keep the course challenging yet approachable, and maintain public access alongside member experiences.
Hooper Golf Course: Community, Stewardship, and the Heart of 9-Hole Golf
Q: What were the key turning points in saving Hooper from closure?
The turning points included the 2011 triggering of a wasting interest designation, the town seeking buyers for years, the 2015 club's folding under volunteer leadership, and ultimately the 2016 environmental conservancy designation that protected the land and allowed fundraising that surpassed $400,000.
Hooper Golf Course: Community, Stewardship, and the Heart of 9-Hole Golf
Q: What drew you to Hooper Golf Course and how did your family become involved?
Josh shares that his family has a long-standing connection to Hooper through membership and leadership roles; he became involved as part of the ownership group around 2019 and has since served as president, balancing community stewardship with keeping the course accessible.
The Moe Norman Legend: Todd Graves & the Single-Plane Swing
Q: What is the best first thing that a senior golfer can do that's been through a lot of surgeries?
Teach them to get the proper address position and then work on that lead knee being stable and flexed to stave off back pain.
