66. The Future of AI, Asia & Private Equity | Lily Oh Interview
Q: What is your outlook on AI and how should PE think about valuing AI-enabled companies?
AI valuations are still evolving; hardware versus software tradeoffs matter, unit economics and cash-flow visibility become key, and peers use different frameworks (EV/EBITDA, EV/ARR, or revenue multiples). Confidence in profitability within 12-18 months or clear path to it justifies higher multiples, especially for dominant players.
66. The Future of AI, Asia & Private Equity | Lily Oh Interview
Q: How should Americans think about the many Asian markets as distinct investments?
Asia is incredibly nuanced by country, language, culture, and regulation; investors need to approach each market—Japan, Korea, India, China, etc.—as separate theaters with their own dynamics rather than a single monolithic market.
66. The Future of AI, Asia & Private Equity | Lily Oh Interview
Q: Can you talk about how you got your start in banking and what drew you to the industry?
I grew up in Korea where investment banking wasn't as big, so I sought exposure through clubs and internships, eventually interning at UBS and JP Morgan before landing a summer offer at Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong, which opened the path to broader Asia-focused opportunities.
