  • Good Anglo pulse

A great podcast to stay up to date on what the technocrat, anglo, pro-American hegemony, Washington blob thinks about us in LatAm.

  • Excellent discussions about Latin & South America

Actual journalism is hard to find nowadays. This English language podcast is the best at delivering straight forward coverage of geopolitics in Latin America & South America. The discussions are always thought provoking & well thought out.

  • Great reporting and discussion, limited perspective

This is a very good podcast in which the politics and economics of Latin America are discussed thoughtfully. I learn something new from every episode. My only quibble is that the guests on the show tend to be almost exclusively from a center to center-right perspective on the political spectrum. This makes sense given that the podcast is published by Americas Quarterly, which in turn is published by the Society of the Americas. Still, I would appreciate hearing from a wider range of perspectives... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Mexico-U.S. Relationship’s Most Delicate Phase
Q: The relationship has had its ups and downs, but where do you think it stands today?
Brenda explains that while there is ongoing cooperation on some security matters, a sustained push from the US on investigations into Mexican officials and the narco-politics discourse have created pressure. She emphasizes that domestic political cohesion in Morena and concerns about the economy are shaping how Mexico responds, making the relationship more precarious as the USMCA review approaches.
Javier Milei’s Ups and Downs
Q: What's going on in Argentina right now that explains the February-March polling numbers?
The economy had been performing better in the months after the midterms, with a rebound in public opinion, but political noise and internal frictions within the government have reemerged, reducing confidence and causing some volatility in sentiment.
Understanding Delcy Rodríguez
Q: What would a democratic transition look like and who would be involved in negotiating it?
He outlines a three-sided negotiation involving the opposition, Rodríguez's regime, and the United States, possibly with mediation; a power-sharing arrangement and guarantees for regime members are likely components.
Understanding Delcy Rodríguez
Q: When we look at what Delcy Rodríguez is doing, is she just trying to buy time in the hope that President Trump will eventually lose focus and Chavismo will ultimately be able to stay in power and go back to its core socialist principles or is there at some level a desire for real change?
Juan suggests she is trying to survive and outlast the Trump administration, signaling a pragmatic approach focused on endurance rather than immediate systemic reform.
Brazil, Colombia and a Regional Case for Optimism
Q: What about Cuba and Venezuela in the near term?
Cuba remains destitute with a fragile private sector keeping essentials afloat, while the Venezuela situation depends on U.S. policy alignment; elections are unlikely in the next year, with longer horizons potentially opening space for changes under pressure to stabilize economies.
