What movies would make it into the film festival of your life?

The American Cinematheque has operated since 1985 as a year-round film festival. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

DANIEL GOLDHABER'S Life at the Movies
Q: What's a moment that cemented your love for film and made you want to become a filmmaker?
Watching The City of Lost Children as a child, after being introduced to Kurosawa and Kubrick through a mentor, sparked a deep curiosity about worlds with their own rules and political ideas, and set me on a path toward compulsive, worldwide cinema exploration.
DANIEL GOLDHABER'S Life at the Movies
Q: Where did you grow up and how did that influence your cinema exposure?
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado, where my parents loved cinema and exposed me to European art house and a lot of home viewing; the Video Station in Boulder offered a massive catalog that fed my early obsession and began my habit of digging into directors and films beyond mainstream fare.
DANIEL GOLDHABER'S Life at the Movies
Q: What is your movie theater ritual when you go to see a movie?
I try to sit about a third of the way back on the left, because those Harvard Film Archive seats felt just right, and I love having a giant tub of popcorn that I greedily finish in the first four minutes while I savor the rest of the film.
SOPHY ROMVARI’S Life at the Movies
Q: What is Romvari's closing night selection and reasoning?
There's Something About Mary is chosen to close on a note of joy and critique of misogyny in mainstream humor, offering a counterpoint to more austere or challenging works throughout the festival.
SOPHY ROMVARI’S Life at the Movies
Q: Which film did Romvari choose for the secret screening and why?
The Bed You Sleep In was chosen for its intimate, boundary-pushing visual approach that aligns with Romvari's interest in how memory and camera framing can convey emotion beyond straightforward narrative.
