  • Elric needs attention

Decided to try this out and unfortunately Elric is on this. He seems like a cinema snob. He acts like he is the supreme being about cinema. I noticed that all reviews seem to be noticing his constant interruptions! Elric… come on dude!

  • Could be better

I really enjoy most of this pod and can’t say anything negative about Brian. But damn, Elric talks way too much and you can tell Brian gets tired of it. Elric has a habit of saying he doesn’t want to smile a movie and then proceeds to tell you everything about that movie. It’s a bummer. Lastly, Elric does this thing, “this one could be paired with” blah blah blah. It’s corny.

Having tuned into Elric for over a decade and then following this podcast since it began, I’m amazed and deeply grateful that I’m still learning so much and having a blast while I do. Contagious passion about movies these guys have and such a wealth of knowledge, as well as just a great conversational hang out vibe. Thanks for the movie discoveries and the good listening

Director William Beaudine (w/ Quentin Tarantino)
Q: How did Beaudine's early influences shape his directing style?
Tarantino explains that Beaudine learned directing from DW Griffith and Max Sennett, absorbing a knack for visual storytelling and comedy that carried over into his later prolific career across silent and sound eras.
Bonus: James L. Neibaur - Author of Directed By William Beaudine: An Overview
Q: What era of his career was like the silent period, and how did it shape his later work?
During the silent era he crafted efficient, well-structured films with a keen sense for budget, later transitioning to sound with an ability to work with big stars under the constraints of pre-code and budget-focused productions.
Bonus: James L. Neibaur - Author of Directed By William Beaudine: An Overview
Q: So my big question off the top is, why is Beaudine important, and why should people come out and see films of his if they don't know who he is?
Beaudine is an excellent director with a resume that spans silent films, talkies, and television; his ability to extract strong performances from limited budgets and his work across many genres make him historically significant and underappreciated.
New Beverly Calendar: April 2026 (William Beaudine)
Q: Will, what do you think of Crime of the Century?
Crime of the Century is a tight, resourceful Beaudine mystery with brisk pacing and clever showmanship, showing how Beaudine could extract entertainment value from limited means.

Q: How will you handle submissions from independent filmmakers?
Submissions are currently wide open, and they encourage filmmakers to reach out. They will maintain quality control but aim to review and respond to every submission.
