  • Horror experts but…

The two hosts have a vast knowledge and effective appreciation of the genre for sure. But the bulk of this podcast is really just a recap of show movies, tv and books currently out. The main topic of each episode is the shortest segment of the show and often rushed through. It’s a bit misleading.

  • A Must for Horror Fans

Elric and Rebecca are fantastic horror hosts — incredibly knowledgable yet very approachable — and their love for the genre is infectious. I appreciate that they cover the big new theatrical releases as well as the smaller, direct to streaming films you might miss. I’ve found so many hidden gems from listening. A must for die-hard and causal horror fans.

  • Very general Horror Discussion

This would have been fine years ago when there weren’t so many options. I gave it a chance. Very “mainstream” modes of thought for reviews. Very “podcasty” voices. The female host is just unappealing and difficult to hear without wanting to drive pencils into your ears. Neither comes off as very knowledgeable of the genre and its history. Plus, I tried this based on the title, which is usually associated with Italian horror. Again… this is a fine podcast for genre non-obsessives, but there are... more

  • Very informative, BUT…

Obviously these 2 know A LOT about the subject matter, and they are well respected and accomplished artists in their fields. Their passion for all things horror is undeniable. However I’ve often come away feeling frustrated by how much of the plot of movies are given away in their reviews. Maybe not technically spoilers, but so much is given away that I feel much of the movie is ruined before I see it. And if I hear the word “bonkers” one more time as a description of a movie storyline, then I’... more

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S3 Ep99: Killer Unicorns
Q: Were you a horror kid, like a video store horror kid, or was that horror something that you came to later?
I wasn't a huge horror kid growing up; horror terrified me when I was a kid, and I didn't explore it until I was an older teen or in college.
S3 Ep96: Dark Valentines
Q: What was your takeaway? What was the aesthetic of the gore?
My North Star was the Friday the 13th films, going as prosthetic as we could, and keeping it fun and non-nihilistic.
S3 Ep96: Dark Valentines
Q: So why did you guys head all the way into New Zealand if it's just sat in an office?
The short answer is taxes. Your dollar is going to stretch quite far.
S3 Ep94: New Year, New Horror
Q: How do you choose the character for your stories?
It generally starts with the character and how they fit into the scenario I want to explore.
S3 Ep94: New Year, New Horror
Q: What is your step one when starting a new book?
I think about it for a while and then I just start at page one and see where I go.
