  • Not bad

As a nwpa resident I look to this podcast to hear local issues. Very liberal and partisan but if you can see through that nonsense it’s good. 2 stars tho.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode for July 24, 2026: U.S. Steel's new plan and AI tornado forecasting
Q: How has AI been used recently for tornado forecasting in Pittsburgh?
Forecasters have begun using AI to process large datasets, including satellite imagery and cloud patterns, to forecast tornado activity over longer ranges and with greater geographic specificity. In some cases, AI detected small but real tornado threats that traditional models missed, prompting closer monitoring and proactive staffing to ensure accurate warnings.
Episode for July 24, 2026: U.S. Steel's new plan and AI tornado forecasting
Q: Can you give me a primer on how weather is predicted traditionally versus with AI?
Traditionally, weather prediction relies on physics-based models that simulate fluid dynamics across a global grid, using measurements like temperature and humidity to solve equations. AI models instead use vast historical data to find statistical patterns, which can sometimes outperform physics-based models in recognizing subtle, region-specific signals, especially over longer time horizons.
Episode for July 17, 2026: Data center roundup
Q: What are the main legislative steps being considered for data centers in Pennsylvania?
The episode covers a proposed 180-day moratorium on new data center applications and a set of GRID-like standards tied to energy procurement, transparency, water use, and local engagement; however, the bills are not yet enacted and faces political hurdles, with a debate over whether exemptions should be repealed.
Episode for June 19, 2026: Shapiro on data centers
Q: Beyond Governor Shapiro, how are the politics around data centers shaking out in Pennsylvania, and is there a clear partisan split on support or opposition?
The reporting suggests a highly fragmented political landscape with opposition mainly at local levels and inconsistent state-level positions, and no clear, unified strategy from either party as stakeholders weigh energy, environmental, and economic concerns.
Episode for June 19, 2026: Shapiro on data centers
Q: So in your story, you looked at emails between the Shapiro administration and Amazon and other data center developers. How did you get access to these emails and what did they say?
The reporter describes finding archived emails via public records requests showing an alleged preferential access to a permitting program for Amazon, described as an enhanced coordination process, which raised questions about transparency and potential unequal treatment.
