  • Box of Delights

An absolute audio-gem, crafted and curated - but in a different way to the Koh-i-Nur! I’ve just caught Sugarfoot ep after the two with the chaps from the Labour Party and the Iraq diplomat - there is so much rich material here, the narrative sound equivalents of Berry Gordy’s "Motown". I wanted to say ‘Phil Spector’s "Wall of Sound" but, like Arnie Hammer, I understand people may have gone off him recently. (Talal - can we fix this in ADR?)

I’m adore alexi, and it refreshing to listen to some actual principled politics. My only gripe would be that it sounds like they’ve just woken him from his nap and he doesn’t wanna be there. Maybe a large coffee before hitting record?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

125: Privilege, the Psychology of Economics and Moral Licensing (with Barry Ferns)
Q: What do you hope audiences take away about discussions around capitalism and inequality?
The goal is to encourage a more nuanced, evidence-based conversation that acknowledges structural factors while recognizing individual experiences, with a focus on humane policy changes that can reduce existential risk for those at the bottom of the ladder.
125: Privilege, the Psychology of Economics and Moral Licensing (with Barry Ferns)
Q: How do you describe the relationship between privilege and failure in your work?
He argues that privilege includes the freedom to fail without catastrophic consequences, which is a significant determinant of whether someone can continue pursuing their ambitions, particularly in competitive fields like comedy and media.
125: Privilege, the Psychology of Economics and Moral Licensing (with Barry Ferns)
Q: What sparked your interest in the psychology behind economics and privilege?
Barry explains that his personal journey—from unemployment and debt to eventual stability—made him see how psychological factors like self-belief, social safety nets, and access to opportunities shape economic outcomes far beyond raw numbers.
124: Diggers, Palestine Marches and Tommy Robinson
Q: What do you think the original diggers of 1649 would make of Wellingborough today?
They would likely be surprised by the modern economy and consumer culture, but the underlying ideals of communal ownership and critique of private property would still resonate with some aspects of today's social movements.
105: Locas Corrupti (with Paul Holden)
Q: What predictions do you have for the Labour Party's future?
Holden expresses concern over the integrity and direction of the Labour Party under its current leadership, suggesting continued unpopularity and potential shifts in voter support.
