  • Jumped the shark with Garfield

This episode was honestly terrible. The host could hardly read from a Wikipedia page, mispronounced everything and obviously didn't do anything to prepare. This topic just didn't have an hour of content and should not have been aired. Ugh.

  • Hello from your past

I LOVE this show! I don’t remember how I found it. I do remember hearing an ad and thinking it sounded like a happy version of a sad podcast I love and I’m totally right, to the point where when one of you covers something the other already did I think I’ve heard the episode before, but I listen anyway don’t worry.

Anyway when I found you in 2023 I decided to start at the beginning so I listen to a few a week. I’m currently in June of 2022 so if you read this review I probably won’t hear it for... more

Really love this podcast! I love the aftermath too. I think it’s so fun to close it all out. Have you ever done one on Typhoid Mary? I think that would be really interesting.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Aftermath: The Black Hole of Calcutta
Q: What was happening internally in India that would cause this relationship to go south?
There was a constant up and down in relations, complicated by the threat posed by the French to the British East India Company's monopoly and the Nawab's refusal to allow the British to fortify their position.
The Aftermath: The Black Hole of Calcutta
Q: How did the Mughal rulers react to East India companies setting up shop there? What kind of understanding, if any, did they have, at least in the beginning?
The Mughal emperor was open to trade, viewing it as profitable, but the English East India Company struggled to find goods that were in demand in India, leading them to export bullion instead.
The Aftermath: The Black Hole of Calcutta
Q: So before we dive in, can you give us some context on the state of India before the British arrive in the early 17th century? What was the political and economic situation like there?
India was a thriving commercial hub, a center of textile manufacturing, and had incredibly prosperous merchants with the Mughal Empire extending into much of the subcontinent.
The Aftermath: IT (1990 miniseries)
Q: What do you attribute its seemingly instant success to?
It's largely due to its focus on childhood fears and the legendary performance by Tim Curry.
The Aftermath: IT (1990 miniseries)
Q: Why does Pennywise return every 27 years?
It's a generational type of trauma, allowing enough time for kids to grow up and face their fears again.
