  • Really?? Katy Van Slyke??

There’s nothing better to talk about in TN than having an IG huntress “influencer” on??? Nothing at all? I know numerous people have written in with episode suggestions and we get an Instafluencer. Pathetic.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#487 Catoosa Ridge: Bobwhites, Big Bucks, and Big Challenges
Q: How do weather and seasonal windows affect your burn and habitat work on Catoosa Ridge?
Burn windows are limited by weather; most burns happen in February and March, and rainfall or wind conditions can alter timing. The team stays flexible, often working late nights to burn when conditions align, and continually reassesses weed control after burns to gauge what needs re-treatment.
#487 Catoosa Ridge: Bobwhites, Big Bucks, and Big Challenges
Q: What did you see when you first looked at the property and sparked the idea to manage it?
There were fields, not trees, and the potential to convert those fields into a robust habitat. That realization led to a plan to manage for quail—especially Bobwhites—from the ground up, including converting fields to suitable plant communities and expanding the management footprint onto Catoosa Ridge.
#484 Hidden Hazards: Navigating Low Water & Dam Safety
Q: What should people do to stay safe before navigating drought-affected waterways
Advice emphasized situational awareness, not solely relying on GPS/charts that may be miscalibrated for low water, slowing down, and wearing a life jacket, with a reminder to avoid alcohol and to operate soberly.
#484 Hidden Hazards: Navigating Low Water & Dam Safety
Q: What sparked the conversation about low water and drought conditions
The discussion began after Roy noticed low water during an outing on Norris and Harrison noted a surge of questions from the public about drought impacts, prompting a joint safety message.
#484 Hidden Hazards: Navigating Low Water & Dam Safety
Q: Roy, tell us a little bit about you and how you got into this field
Roy shared that he has worked with TWRA for 22 years, starting as a wildlife officer in Johnson County, moving into boating safety, incident investigation, and ultimately a statewide role focusing on boating crashes and safety reporting.
