Author Emily Winslow is a fabulous crime novelist and she’s also a sexual assault survivor. In 1992, she was a young drama student at an elite conservatory in Pittsburgh. One January night, she was brutally raped by a stranger. More than 20 years la... more
Journalist Pam Colloff is one of my favorite people. She’s an outstanding criminal justice reporter who is now publishing her first book. And it’s a doozy. It’s about a serial criminal, a so-called informant who conned the courts and the DAs. He sen... more

Listened to several episodes, and this just isn’t up to the standard set by Kate with Buried Bones. Some authors are interesting, but most are dry and never hold my interest to listen to the end.
The double episode about the Dyatlov Pass mystery was one of the best examples of why this show is so good. Going deep into the story but also the work of the documentary maker, what he included and what he didn’t, but most importantly why, is so fascinating and his leading theory makes so much sense. A great extended interview with Kate’s sharp interviewing style so beautifully matched.
Hayes was black. This is significant. You think it’s not.
Kate Winkler Dawson has become one of my favorite podcasters. Her interviews frequently sound like she’s talking with a friend. In each interview, there is always something interesting.
The interview for the book “London Falling” actually made me cry with the poignant ending.

Some podcasts on the Apple platform keep throwing in extra minutes of commercial ads every six months. Four, five, six-minutes of ads and more. It’s like they’re trying to strong-arm listeners, “Pay us through our Patreon, or suffer the consequences.” Not everyone can pay $100 a month for 20 podcast subscriptions. I have 300 in the list.
