  • A Brief Review

Good day to all who read this.

I believe that all who are interested in tech will benefit greatly from listening to this podcast - decided and undecided alike.

To date, I have found the content to be useful, interesting and well-structured. The non-techie perspective is a welcome alternative to the customary argument that only techies can cut it in the world of high tech.

I for one look forward to more episodes, of similar or even higher quality.

My thanks to Sophia (and her team).

Recently came across the Tech For Non-Techies podcast and am really enjoying it. Really appreciated your episode with Dr. Marilyn Sandor about her journey of going from a practicing dentist to becoming a tech founder when Covid-19 shut her office down. So many amazing takeaways! Can't wait to listen to more episodes! Thank you!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

305. How to build a company you're proud of — with Eric Ries
Q: How should non-technical founders handle investor feedback that conflicts with their core principles?
They should treat investors as advisors, not bosses, and be prepared to say no when feedback undermines the company's mission and long-term health.
305. How to build a company you're proud of — with Eric Ries
Q: What is the core distinction between mission-driven decisions and short-term financial pressures?
Mission-driven decisions focus on long-term value creation through alignment of culture, governance, and strategy, even if short-term profits are temporarily sacrificed.
301. How to catch the next tech investment wave
Q: If somebody is evaluating an opportunity to invest in it, but they're not just handing money over—they're going to build the venture themselves, would the same frameworks apply?
Yes. The same principles apply: focus on technologies that deliver broad productivity, understand adoption curves, and aim for a sweet spot where upside is high but downside is limited. This means choosing opportunities where you can leverage the wave, even if you're not the one building the underlying tech.
299. You don't have to know how to code to start a tech company with Sophia Matveeva
Q: Where should a founder start when they have an idea but no coding knowledge?
Focus on whether there is a real opportunity and a paying market for the problem, then validate with a simple AI-driven test version and five real users to uncover meaningful feedback before investing in development.
297. The fundraising mistakes that haunt founders for years
Q: And Melanie, are accelerators really worth it, or is the equity you give up too high a price?
Accelerators can be valuable for mentorship and access, but founders should carefully assess what they get in return for the equity and ensure alignment with their long-term goals, especially since ownership is diluted at the lowest valuation.
