  • Excellent and thought-provoking

A sensible discussion explaining why theology and science sit alongside each other and are not, as is often assumed, in conflict with each other. Through science we see more of the glory of God

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lauren Randall - The story of the world's oldest Bible
Q: What makes Codex Amiatinus a landmark in the history of the Bible?
It is the earliest surviving complete Bible, produced in Northumbria, and its creation reveals a pivotal moment in canon formation and the understanding of scripture as a unified book.
Scott MacDougall - What is the shape of Anglican theology?
Q: What gift does thinking Anglicanly about our theology offer at a time of rupture and disagreement within the church, especially in the US and UK?
Thinking Anglicanly emphasizes relationality and communion over certainty, encouraging robust dialogue across differences while resisting unproductive factionalism. It invites ongoing discernment and humility, aiming to foster unity and accountability within a diverse communion rather than allowing rupture to erode shared faith.
Scott MacDougall - What is the shape of Anglican theology?
Q: Tell us a bit about how the eight characteristics work and a couple of features that are particularly notable for readers
The eight characteristics—scriptural, incarnational, liturgical, pastoral, practical, non-confessional, critical, and occasional—interlock rather than stand alone. They establish boundary markers and a sensibility that allows breadth within Anglican theology, with incarnational and pastoral emphasis often serving as entry points for understanding how Anglicanism approaches faith in the world.
Scott MacDougall - What is the shape of Anglican theology?
Q: Scott, why don't you start us off by telling us a bit about yourself? What is your role and how do you come to write a book about The Shape of Anglican Theology?
I taught theology for nearly a decade at an Episcopalian seminary, then joined Brill to contribute to a series on Anglican perspectives. My aim was to survey how Anglicans think about theology, not just to catalog theologians, but to describe the ongoing conversations that shape Anglican theology.
Sarah Strand - How can we grow faith at home?
Q: Could you tell us how your interest in growing faith at home developed from personal to academic interest?
What started as a practical passion for helping my own children grow in faith evolved into a rigorous academic exploration, balancing theology with practical family life, and then into publishing a book that sits at that intersection.
