  • Not Spacy but love the Podcsdt

I listen to the first half of this podcast every weeknight. I am not in the space industry and know little about it but I find the news updates fascinating. I feel like I’m learning and I had no idea of the rich news about space there is. Sometimes I listen to second half of the show but not always. A lot of that is a little “in the weeds” for me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A pivotal week in spaceflight.
Q: What movements are we seeing with Chinese spacecraft?
The latest is the launch of the TJS-21 satellite, which will operate in a highly elliptical orbit, enhancing coverage for missile warning purposes.
Quantum maps, GPS traps, and big launches ahead.
Q: Does the military have their own separate fallback on GPS, or are they still using the same system that all the rest of us use?
The military is very much using the same system that all the rest of us use. There's been talk about a next generation GPS, but currently they rely on the legacy GPS architecture.
Quantum maps, GPS traps, and big launches ahead.
Q: Can you walk us through the different modes of jamming or spoofing?
There are simple types of jamming like barrage jamming which just puts a noise into the atmosphere, and more sophisticated types like GPS spoofing which replicates the GPS signal.
How realistic is A House of Dynamite?
Q: Is it actually realistic that the president would have no idea what these potential attack options would be until that moment?
The president gets briefed about options before Inauguration Day, but typically does not participate in exercises, leaving room for political decision-making space.
How realistic is A House of Dynamite?
Q: Can you walk me through how realistic that kind of scenario is and what would that really look like?
It's not a far-fetched scenario, as the military has had exercises involving unattributed missile launches to see how reactions unfold.
