  • 30 Minute Advertisement

There’s an add then about 5 minutes of content where the host reads headlines without really talking about the story. And then a sponsored interview that takes up most of the episode and some more adds.

No value to the listener. Just a lot of being advertised to.

  • Great Content

I like the content (and the music mixing) but the host has one of the most AI-generated-sounding voices and enunciation that I have ever heard. It’s not unpleasant, though.

  • The best podcast for the latest news,.

For the one complaining about a "brick wall of ads", there's 1 in the beginning, 1 in the middle, 1 at the end. If that's to many then consider paying for the subscription instead of complaining about a free podcast

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

But what do you really want? [CISOP]
Q: What challenges exist in replacing the 'purple unicorn' hiring mentality?
The ecosystem struggles with the lack of standardized, codified pathways and the overemphasis on rare, ideal candidates. Ed advocates for broader, more practical requirements and accreditation to ensure a reliable baseline of capability across entrants.
But what do you really want? [CISOP]
Q: How can academia better prepare students for cyber roles?
He argues for a medical-style model of experiential learning, with partnerships between universities and industry to create training hospitals or labs where students gain real responsibility and applied experience, not just theoretical knowledge.
But what do you really want? [CISOP]
Q: What do you really want or look for in entry-level cyber talent?
Ed emphasizes a three-part framework: solid classroom knowledge, practical lab-based skills, and crucial real-world experience. He also notes the reluctance among some Fortune 500s to allow entry-level workers to handle real consequences, arguing for an integrated, experiential approach and unified standards.
Strategic approaches to talent: A practical guide. [CISOP]
Q: How does SkillRex view the role of HR/L&D in cyber talent strategy?
HR and L&D must be integrated partners rather than afterthoughts; without their alignment, cyber teams face overload and underprepared governance, so bridging this gap is essential to scalable, strategic talent management.
Strategic approaches to talent: A practical guide. [CISOP]
Q: What model does Jeff propose for measuring cyber workforce effectiveness?
A comprehensive cyber workforce model modeled after Moneyball that aggregates data from multiple sources—ATS, HRIS, LMS, training outcomes, and business metrics—to identify gaps, guide training, and quantify impact across the organization.
