  • Love this podcast, but HATE weird cinema

I have listened to this podcast for years and absolutely love, love, love every subject that blows my mind. However, I really HATE weird cinema. I have your podcast set to play on my queue at all times when there’s a new one so I have to stop the car or wake my husband by opening my iPad to fast forward thru them. I really wish it was a separate podcast…it needs its own little niche of followers. Sorry. I’ll never stop listening to STBYM but I’ll continue to skip listening to descriptive movie t... more

  • One of the better podcasts

I’ve tried listening to many podcasts, but it seems that the majority consist of way too much needless banter and too little research and topic exploration.

Not so with this one. At least with core episodes, the hosts seldom banter and really dive deep into each topic. You can tell the hosts painstakingly research the topics they discuss. They also have clear, soothing voices.

  • Great podcast all around

Love this podcast and have been listening for years. It’s my go to show to relax while still learning something. Wanted to add that initially always skipped weirdhouse cinema however I started listening and really enjoy these episodes as well. The hosts’ voices are so calming and their banter is nice. Please keep up the great work!!

The Science of Rumination, with Donna Jackson Nakazawa
Q: Can you share a quick technique listeners can use right away?
One effective quick technique is ballistic interruption paired with mindful language, where you briefly interrupt the loop with a strong, deliberate statement of safety and then physically adjust your body to signal calm, helping the brain release the old pattern.
The Science of Rumination, with Donna Jackson Nakazawa
Q: What is the MIS T framework and how can it help listeners?
The MIS T framework stands for Mental Movies, Intense Emotions, Somatic Sensations, and Tying it together. It guides people to name the recurring story, identify the emotions, acknowledge bodily sensations, and then connect these insights to move out of the loop, providing a practical, repeatable method.
The Science of Rumination, with Donna Jackson Nakazawa
Q: Define rumination in simple terms and why it matters to our mental health.
Rumination is a recursive, self-reinforcing loop of negative thinking that keeps looping over the same story, often accompanied by anxiety and distress. It matters because it's linked to poorer mental health outcomes, cognitive decline, and a reduced ability to act, whereas understanding it can open pathways to change.
Smart Talks with IBM: Brewing Smarter: How HEINEKEN Is Using AI To Revolutionize Its Global Operations
Q: Give me a specific example of a problem you set out to solve or address.
Advertising spend optimization across brands and channels, using historical data to build predictive models that guide budget allocation for higher ROI, with results showing uplift in revenue and volume in certain cases.
From the Vault: The Invention of Cotton Candy, Part 1
Q: What is this strange blue sugar air that is summoned out of some sort of a technological vat?
Cotton candy is made by heating sugar syrup to a hard crack phase and extruding it through tiny holes to create thin strands that solidify in the air.
