  • Interruptions

While, the content is excellent, the interviewer’s constant interruptions and interjections are uncalled for. Dr. Robinson, please listen to your own podcast and count the number of times you interject per minute. Then contrast that with how well Sam Harris listened to you without interruption.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A Day in the Life of a Roman Gladiator
Q: What makes a good gladiator?
Strength, skill, endurance, and courage are essential, along with the recognition from Roman society that showing bravery in combat would prepare civilians for real-world warfare.
A Day in the Life of a Roman Gladiator
Q: What do you think it reveals to us about the way that the Romans thought about and experienced mortality?
Gladiators had a different understanding of mortality, largely due to the lack of sanctity of life inherent in Roman pagan beliefs. Their view of the afterlife and attitudes about life and death starkly contrasted with modern perspectives.
Meditation and Anger in Stoicism and Buddhism
Q: Can anger, in fact, be something that's extremely important for civil rights?
From a Buddhist perspective, operating with anger or ill will in the mind impedes your ability to contribute effectively to social justice.
Stoicism and The Moment that Defines your Life
Q: How do you think stoicism is relevant to executive coaching?
It's everything I talked about. It's the missing element in their education. You can't cram exam and regurgitate your way to good behavior when bad things happen.
Stoicism and Life Coaching
Q: What is the best way for people to begin learning about Stoicism and applying it in their life if they are completely new to the subject?
Benny recommends reading ancient texts and finding guidance from others who are familiar with Stoic philosophy.
