  • Insufferable

Academics are insufferable. They are so self aggrandizing and everything they say sounds like a commercial. Spoiled brats need there ivory towers burnt down so they can toil in the dirt like the rest of us. You are not special. Stop fooling yourselves.

Good show, quality content. It’d be great if it didn’t sound 100% scripted, though.

This an amazing podcast. Very comprehensive. It clears all the stupid things the news casters put on the evening News. It answers all questions very well and objectively. Only wish, Mega could speak a little slower. That’s the reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 start rating. Sharing it liberally with friends and colleagues

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

C&EN Uncovered: A Quantum Milestone
Q: What does this milestone mean for the timeline toward useful quantum computing?
It establishes a workflow and demonstrates that quantum machines can produce data that match real experiments, but experts agree that widespread practical usefulness will require fault-tolerant hardware and significant hardware/material advances.
C&EN Uncovered: A Quantum Milestone
Q: What is the practical difference between a quantum computer and a classical supercomputer?
A quantum computer can, in theory, solve certain problems that classical computers cannot efficiently solve, often related to complex quantum phenomena, though current demonstrations are limited by noise and require hybrid classical-quantum workflows.
C&EN Uncovered: A Quantum Milestone
Q: What is quantum computing in simple terms and how does a simulation help explain it?
Quantum computing leverages quantum mechanics to perform computations that are difficult for classical computers; simulations allow researchers test scenarios by changing variables and observing outcomes in a controlled framework.
Bonus episode: The ancient, 'juicy' origins of antibiotic resistance
Q: If antibiotic resistance keeps going the way it's going, how bad can things get?
The worst case scenario could include deadly infections becoming untreatable and high rates of mortality from common injuries.
Bonus episode: The electric innovations that brought lithium-ion batteries online
Q: Are lithium-ion batteries really that much better?
Yes, they're more energy dense, have a longer lifespan, can handle more recharging cycles, charge faster, and are safer.
