Status - Immigration & People

Matt Horton

Status tells the human stories that immigration impacts.

In any case, every immigrant has a story. We tell those stories and how the complex reality of immigration weaves its... more

  • Bring “Status” back!

I really enjoyed this podcast for the real-life stories of immigration. Each episode told a beautiful, unique story that helped people better understand the complexities of immigration. Before going through a very long and intense immigration process with my Brazilian husband, I had no idea what it was like. Thank you for your incredible work, Matt! I hope you consider creating new episodes :)

  • Great content but perpetuates the “exceptional immigrant” narrative

The stories are great and very well told. But they’re pretty limited to more elite/privileged individuals/families which perpetuates the sad narrative of those groups being entitled to immigration rights...more than others who aren’t in graduate school, business owners, etc.

  • One of the best podcasts I have listened to

Matt has done a beautiful job with this podcast! Telling a story of immigration if people has been a learning experience, and it has encouraged me to be a voice for so many in this country that are voiceless.

Thank you Matt for bringing us all of these beautiful people and their stories. Thank you also for educating us in what the immigration fight truly is in this country!

  • Moving stories

I only just listened to this, but it is so moving to hear people tell their stories. This is a very well-produced show too; well edited, and it's always nice to hear someone making excellent use of Breakmaster Cylinder music too. :)

  • The Stories You Didn't Know You Needed

As is often the case with the best podcasts, Status tells the stories that you didn't know you needed but now cannot imagine not knowing. Each episode conveys the stories of people who are usually otherwise unnoticed, even by the systems they're trying to interact with. Just absolutely a great mechanism to humanize the real experiences of the complexities of immigration status.

  • Unique pod on a timely topic in today's America

Status details the experiences of individuals that are navigating the American immigration system. It focuses on the people going through the system and their stories rather than the system itself, which is the show's greatest strength (and the biggest differentiator from similar shows). The show brings a human-centered and deeply personal look at what is often a very impersonal and inhumane system. Recommended for anyone, but a must listen for those interested in immigration.
