Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Stateside: Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Q: What broader implications do these findings have for public health and regulation of PFAS?
The findings underscore the need to address both legacy PFAS in drinking water and the ongoing risk from newer PFAS, highlighting scientific and economic costs and the importance of careful interpretation and policy responses that reduce exposure.
Stateside: Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Q: How did you set up the research to measure immune response in adults, given prior challenges with measuring this in adults?
They leveraged a scenario involving a novel virus exposure (like COVID-19) and measured antibody responses after vaccination to detect a signal in adults, which is harder to do in other contexts but provides a clearer read on immune function.
Stateside: Wednesday, April 8, 2026
Q: Could you give a thumbnail of what research has established about exposure and health prior to your study?
Legacy PFAS are well-studied; they persist, are toxic, and affect multiple body systems, with links to certain cancers and immune disruption, but adult immunological responses to novel pathogens have been murkier, which is why this adult-focused study is meaningful.
Stateside: Monday, April 6, 2026
Q: Do you have any sense of the timeline? I mean, I think I'm hearing you say that it's unlikely that such laws will be enforced while that's getting figured out in the Colorado instance?
Yes, enforcement is unlikely in the near term; the state and involved parties will hash out a more defined definition of the Michigan law's scope, which may preserve certain prohibitions while clarifying exceptions for talk therapy and related practices.
Stateside: Monday, April 6, 2026
Q: So this is proving to be a very back and forth issue in the United States. Can you maybe tell us what you understand of the status of the Michigan law, now that we have this Supreme Court decision?
The Michigan law, passed in 2023, is paused due to litigation and the Colorado decision is prompting officials to define guardrails and interpret how the law will apply going forward, with a focus on free speech questions and medical regulation.
