  • Really like it but can be too cynical or idealist

Like the title says, they present lots of useful information but their opinions are a bit one-sided. I wish they had someone who disagreed more with them or provided alternative views.

  • Sad you let Troy leave

Pretty big fumble to let Troy even consider leaving. The podcast was successful because it was uniquely passionate, funny, and accurate, and this feels like some founders not understanding what has impact in the media and the city. No one wants a podcast that is a simple reporting of local facts, and no one wants the ai summary newsletters either.

You had an edge, and now that edge is going to go make triple figures somewhere that sees how well Troy has read the moment. I hope anyway.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is Whyte Ave chopped and unc?
Q: What exactly does the coalition want to be done on Whyte Ave, and what projects are they prioritizing?
The coalition wants the Old Strathcona BIA and French Quarter BIA, along with transit and community groups, to be prioritized in the next four-year window, focusing on transit improvements, pedestrian accessibility, and the broader corridor renewal plan that aligns with existing strategies rather than ad-hoc upgrades.
Is Whyte Ave chopped and unc?
Q: How and why did these groups come together to form Prioritize Whyte Ave?
Andrea explains that several stakeholders across business associations and active-transport groups regularly communicate, and through those conversations they identified immediate near-term needs and realized a coordinated approach would be stronger than isolated efforts.
The water is safe to drink
Q: How is the Quarters CRL affected by this episode's discussions?
The episode notes that the Quarters CRL is facing revenue shortfalls and may not cover its catalytic projects; the city suggests broader funding strategies and emphasizes that private investment has not materialized as hoped, impacting long-term financial viability.
The water is safe to drink
Q: What changes are being made to Whyte Avenue to address transit priority and safety?
The city plans to remove scramble crosswalks, require turn restrictions (no right on red, left turns with arrows), and introduce bus pullouts and widened sidewalks to improve transit performance and pedestrian space, while discussions consider how these affect safety and traffic flow.
Ending the year on a tight vote
Q: What are your thoughts on the recent meeting you had with Premier Danielle Smith?
The conversation was productive, discussing priorities and how to build a safer and more affordable city.
