  • Fascinating range of guests

I am in the space industry and know some of the guests but something about the format facilitates more interesting discussions around not just the business of space but the things that inspired them to pursue a career in space. This often leads to broad discussions on the most exciting things, even the question of intelligent life existing elsewhere. (Spoiler alert it’s not so intelligent here!)

  • Great podcast

Interesting to listen to, great content, great guests. The audio isn’t great sometimes and jumps from loud to quiet, making it difficult to listen to sometimes. If you could correct that, I think this podcast could really grow a lot!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#167 | Japan Space Ecosystem | Francois Poncin, SPACETIDE
Q: Can you summarize how the Space Strategy Fund works and who benefits from it?
The Space Strategy Fund is a 1 trillion yen fund over ten years, run by JAXA, identifying strategic technologies across three domains and inviting private-sector proposals; beneficiaries include startups, universities, and industry players, with opportunities for international co-funding.
#167 | Japan Space Ecosystem | Francois Poncin, SPACETIDE
Q: Francois, how did you find your way into the Japanese space sector and what attracted you to Space Tide?
Francois explains that after a finance career, he sought a role where he could apply his skills to the space sector in Japan, and Space Tide offered a neutral hub to connect diverse actors across industry, government, and academia, which aligned with his goal to unlock space for humanity.
#166 | Satellites 2.0 | Patrick Haddox, Samara Aerospace
Q: How do you see the market for satellite buses evolving, and where do you fit in?
The market is crowded with minor differentiators; Samara aims to be a higher-performance option by removing the traditional wheel-based limitations, which enables larger, more capable platforms and sets the stage for a broader customer base once in-orbit proof points are established.
#166 | Satellites 2.0 | Patrick Haddox, Samara Aerospace
Q: Why did you move from being a component supplier to offering an entire satellite bus?
Because every dimension of the hinge and solar panel system is interdependent; making the bus from the ground up ensures you optimize the whole system rather than trying to fit new tech into an old, incompatible bus design.
#165 | Launch Services | Robert Sproles, Exolaunch
Q: Robert, the way we usually kick this off is with an elevator pitch about the company.
Exolaunch is a Berlin-based launch services company that provides end-to-end access to space by handling hardware, mission management, regulatory approvals, and delivery to orbit, while remaining launcher-agnostic to maximize customer options and capacity.
