What happens when biblical patriarchy, christian nationalism, and a theology of authority and submission become the pillars of a movement? Scores of abuse stories in marriages, schools, churches, families, and more. • Tell everyone to run

Someone gave me a few of his books when I started raising boys, something felt off about them so thank God I never read them and applied his religious dogma. I am a life long christian and have brushed arms with cultish environments, specifically the homeschool mom types who love to grab onto anything martyr-ish, and Doug Wilson has completely turned one of my best friends into someone I don’t even recognize. She can’t even talk to or have friends. She criticized me and my daughter due to my par... more

  • Eh

I thought this podcast was very thought provoking and I appreciated hearing stories from those who survived Moscow and Moscow adjacent groups. It really helped me to work through a lot of my own issues leaving a church that, while they openly condemned Wilson, they still upheld A LOT of his teachings on patriarchy, how men and women relate to one another etc.

It seems though as the podcast has gotten into later seasons they have become ok with openly attacking conservative Christianity as whol... more

  • Mixed feelings

I have mixed thoughts and emotions about the latest podcast. I appreciated some of the thoughts and beliefs shared but disagreed with so much shared as well! The topic of divorce is not black and white. What was not discussed or even mentioned is divorce due to an abusive partner and what research shows as being healthier for the child. In my experience and because I am a woman-many women want to remain married but when a husband is abusive emotionally, physically, spiritually it greatly impacts... more

  • Contrived outrage

Every word of this podcast is spoken with venom and malice. This is not the voice for the abused, but the voice of the accuser.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Unpacking the Tradwife Trend: Social Media, Feminism, and Politics
Q: What disorders or risks do you see in this ecosystem, and what would healthier alternatives look like?
The risk is the oversimplification of complex social issues into bite-sized, highly persuasive narratives that can deter people from seeking broader social or therapeutic support. Healthier alternatives would include a diverse ecosystem of voices—feminist, anti-racist, and social-work informed perspectives—that validate choice while offering pathways to therapy, community engagement, and systemic change rather than replacement narratives that limit women's agency.
A History of Christian Nationalism
Q: What practical steps can churches take to have healthier conversations about faith and politics?
Christina emphasizes educating congregations about history, inviting questions, and guiding conversations toward hospitality and humanity, while Richard suggests grounding discussions in the New Testament and focusing on Jesus' teachings about the marginalized as a corrective to nationalist readings.
A History of Christian Nationalism
Q: How do you distinguish Christian nationalism from broader Christian involvement in politics?
They argue that Christian nationalism pursues a Christian America through dominance and control, often tying imperial and racial hierarchies to religious vision, whereas other Christian political engagement can be more relational and scripturally grounded, focusing on service and marginalized communities.
A History of Christian Nationalism
Q: What sparked your interest in this topic and how did you get started researching Christian nationalism?
Richard explains the project began with a request from the University of Illinois Press to update and expand a prior work, which led to a broader exploration of Christian nationalism and the myth of Christian America.
Why Are Men Getting More Conservative?
Q: What practical steps can individuals or families take to address these issues?
Engage in conversations with children about online spaces, model caregiving, advocate locally for family-friendly policies, and create supportive communities that value caregiving and collaboration over traditional dominance.
