Not like other conventional podcasts- this one is clearly the product of a beautiful mind
As someone who grew up in the streets of San Francisco, I absolutely cringed when the first few minutes of Part I of the Frisco episodes was dedicated to people claiming that nobody from San Francisco calls it Frisco. Not true! Absoutely every single multi-generational Frisconian I knew called it Frisco. And those arounde us knew better than to question that. Turns out it is all about class and race. And to my great relief, the rest of the 3 part episode was dedicated to giving the not so privil... more
I wanted to listen to Najib, a former coworker's podcast. Per other user reviews, I listened to the coffee episode. It's awesome. Production, research, and delivery are all top-notch. Great work!
"Who is specialty coffee for?"
A very eye-opening episode, taking a very honest look at the coffee industry and asks the questions most of us try to avoid. Major reckonings that loom over this $5-per-cup industry include climate change, slavery, gentrificaiton, and assimilation.
Nick Cho of Wrecking Ball Coffee gave a very poignant, if brutal response: "If we can't solve certain social problems within the coffee context... maybe we can't solve it anywhere."
Bougie coffee was just a click bait headline. Started off with college kids competing in a coffee brewing competition and followed by a history of coffee. I just want to hear about fancy coffee. Christ
A thought provoking show. Loved the coffee episode. The intro made me proud, as I am a UCD alum.
I liken this to another good podcast, “There Goes The Neighborhood.” Interesting thoughts, information, and background to your favorite hipster beverage
Usually the first half of the show is good but then it starts grasping for content . Latest coffee episode goes from talking about why coffee should be more expensive, to saying 5$ is too expensive because white people want to have a status and because they want to feel good about where they buy from, it really doesn’t pick one or the other .
I really enjoyed this program but the volume of the narrator’s voice fluctuated so much that it was hard to keep listening.
I liked the first half of the coffee episode, but then it seemed to discount the opinion of an academic in favor of baristas whose opinions were self contradictory and demeaning of coffee itself. I think it could’ve been deepened by pushing back against some of the contradictory statements of the baristas and that would’ve enriched the rigor...but just meh for me. Not particularly impressed.
If you, like myself, are always looking for that next solid interesting well produced podcast, give Some Noise a shot. Each episode hits many different levels and leads you to make your own conclusions, instead of ramming stuff down your throat/ into your ears (like a trump tweet). On top of the geographically and culturally rich and diverse content, is OUTSTANDING production quality. Your ears will think this came from WBEZ or WNYC or something. Give this podcast a listen, my favorite episod... more
This is like vice, this American life and frontline all wrapped in one. Really makes you think🤔.
Hey, ya turkeys, listen to this. Very cool, slice of life stories
Well thought out and produced. The creator takes a deep dive into topics we usually overlook and turns them into really enjoyable pieces.
Enjoyed first episode I listened to and will check out more. Question for the anti technology guy—do you think the hunter gatherers were happier than people living in 21st century? They lived short, harsh lives and their freedoms were also limited by disease, famine and conflicts with each other. Not sure using a credit card over cash makes you less free.
