  • Interesting and informative

I am not a pro flower grower, but I am an avid gardener and lover of flowers. I have also been interested in having a green burial for a couple of decades now and am a sustainability devotee. I found the podcast episode “Farewell Flowers” to be so informative and I learned a lot about sustainable flowers in general and the application to funerals in particular. I have shared this with friends just so they too can be aware and make informed plans for their final decision.

  • The business of FLOWERS

The floral and farming information that’s shared is fantastic! I’ve listened for years and have always found this podcast to be so interesting and informative.

Sadly, It’s become too political. I just want to escape politics and listen to a great podcast about flowers from other humans who love growing, designing, and admiring them!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 769: A Conversation about Local Flower Hubs with Jodi Logue of West Sound Floral Exchange
Q: How does the money work for West Sound Floral Exchange?
Farmers set their own prices, the platform adds a wholesale/middle-man markup visible to customers, and West Sound Floral Exchange keeps the difference to cover bus, cooler, insurance, and operations while ensuring transparency.
Episode 768: Organic flower farming in the Netherlands, with Julian Langelaan of Op Beemster Klei
Q: What are your first crops and where are you located?
We operate on heavy clay soil in Beemster Polder, about 20 minutes north of Amsterdam, growing about 30 varieties commercially, and we harvest tulips, peonies, and a range of perennials and annuals for wholesalers and the local market.
Episode 768: Organic flower farming in the Netherlands, with Julian Langelaan of Op Beemster Klei
Q: Can you give us a snapshot of Op Beemster Klei, what is your focus and business model?
We grow certified organic cut flowers on five hectares, sourced directly from annuals, perennials, shrubs and bulbs, mainly sold to florist wholesalers and organized through Floraholland for logistics. We focus on organic production with direct service to wholesalers and some local channels, aiming for year‑round availability through careful cropping and greenhouse options.
Episode 765: Beyond the Bouquet: Expanding Your Flower Business Through Education and Experience with Xenia D’Ambrosi of Sweet Earth Co.
Q: How do you approach pricing and course structure to ensure accessibility and value?
Start with a core, comprehensive framework, add useful bonuses (soil tests, pest/disease guides, templates), offer a lower-cost seed-starting class, and provide payment options to keep it accessible.
Episode 765: Beyond the Bouquet: Expanding Your Flower Business Through Education and Experience with Xenia D’Ambrosi of Sweet Earth Co.
Q: What motivated you to turn your knowledge into an online course and on-farm experiences?
A combination of wanting to scale impact beyond a small audience, capitalize on the demand for education, and create a resilient revenue stream that sustains the farm while still allowing hands-on work.
