  • Ruth Marcus is an out of touch racist

Why on earth would you platform the out of touch, anti Muslim racism of Ruth Marcus? Her views on Mamdani are precisely why the Democratic Party is on life support and hated by its own base.

  • TBD Tech and Gun Manufacturing

Thought provoking discussion on marketing of guns. I hope the results of this lawsuit is that marketing guns to youth becomes illegal like tobacco and other harms.

  • David Plotz thinks he is objective

But he is really a knee jerk apologist for liberalism. His constant exhortations about how fair minded he is while he takes swipes at progressives seems self hating and unnecessary. Exhausting to listen to and it is annoying the number of assumptions he makes about the listeners and how little he thinks of us. Emily Bazelon is the saving grace. John Dickerson tends to live in the same bubble as David.

  • Very Disappointing Episode

The episode about Trump voters was awful. The guest spent the entire time insulting liberals to prove that liberals shouldn’t think Trumpsters are delusional racists. Frank Buckley offered zero insight into how Trump MAGA are anything other than delusional racists.

Love the pod, but… What happened to the volume?? It’s so loud that it can hardly be heard.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Care and Feeding | Slate's parenting show - Should I Change My Trans Kid’s Name?
Q: Dear Karen Feeding, should I encourage her to change her name before first grade?
The guest emphasizes leading with the child's own wishes, weighing school and social impacts, and discussing with the child and school rather than forcing a change; the priority is the child's comfort and safety, with the parent supporting the child's lead.
What Next: TBD | Tech, power, and the future - Big Tech’s Climate Fight…on Pause?
Q: Will American companies be left behind if policy in the U.S. remains unstable while other countries push ahead?
They suggest that without durable, long-term policy and investment, the U.S. risks losing leadership to Europe and China, making a strong case for consistent federal support and clear industrial strategy.
What Next: TBD | Tech, power, and the future - Big Tech’s Climate Fight…on Pause?
Q: So what happens now in the carbon removal market given this pause by a massive buyer?
The host and guest discuss that the market may see contraction and a need for price discovery as other buyers and policy incentives shape demand, underscoring the importance of durable policy to sustain investment and scale.
What Next - Senate Dems: “So You’re Saying There’s A Chance?”
Q: Tell me a little bit about where we are with John Fetterman and why he's making the math more complicated for Democrats right now.
Fetterman could become a Republican or an Independent who caucuses with Republicans, effectively weakening the Democrats' hold on 51 seats; otherwise, he is likely to stay a Democrat, but his voting and caucus choices add volatility to the Senate arithmetic.
What Next - Senate Dems: “So You’re Saying There’s A Chance?”
Q: Can we do a little math at this point? Can you talk to me about how many seats Democrats would need to nab to have a Senate majority?
They would need to net four seats to reach 51 seats, given current standings, with potential scenarios where a swing vote like Fetterman could alter the math by caucusing with the Republicans or switching parties, which could complicate the majority calculation.
